As Above, So Below is a homage to Pee-wee Herman’s iconic breakfast machine, a long-forgotten childhood memory and perhaps my first encounter with visual systems in motion.
Inspired by Rube Goldberg machines, devices designed to accomplish simple tasks through unnecessarily complex chains of reactions, this 13-page leporello follows a sphere as it navigates a sequence of rises and falls. The book unfolds as a continuous journey of anticipation, effort, and consequence.
Like life itself, what goes up eventually comes down. With each obstacle comes the hope that it will be the last, and the certainty that it won’t.
